A move by Chelsea for this Arsenal ace would be a stroke of genius from Conte – here’s why

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are mixed on the prospect of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain moving to Stamford Bridge…

Linked with a move to Chelsea by Sky Sports, Oxlade-Chamberlain faces an uncertain future at the Emirates this summer. Still not a regular despite impressing for much of last season, the Englishman could look to leave the club – and our landlord thinks that he would be perfect for Antonio Conte’s Chelsea.

Let’s not forget, despite his limited game time, Chamberlain really is a top player. Particularly impressive through the middle, the Englishman offers endless energy, technical brilliance and a fantastic offensive threat – three traits that would fit in well for the Blues. He bagged 7 assists and 2 goals last year under difficult circumstances, which in of itself is a pretty impressive return.

At Chelsea, he would likely get more of a chance, particularly given how versatile he is. For much of his career, he has been used as a winger, and he has looked good in that role. For Chelsea, it would make sense to play him there, given that beyond Eden Hazard, Willian and Pedro – the Blues aren’t blessed with depth. However, significantly, he is also very comfortable playing in central midfield, whilst recent performances as a wing-back could also open up a world of opportunities for him at Stamford Bridge.

As an Englishman homegrown in the UK, he would also help Chelsea fill their necessary homegrown quotas next season, which with the departure of John Terry, is quickly becoming a real issue for Conte.

This is a deal that makes a lot of sense for the Blues.
