The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are hoping their side will leapfrog Manchester United into 2nd place with a victory over Arsenal tomorrow evening.
Antonio Conte’s side moved into the new year with a thumping 5-0 victory over Stoke City at Stamford Bridge to round off a successful year for the club. Chelsea lifted the Premier League trophy for the 5th time in 2017 following an imperious campaign under Conte’s leadership. Much to the disappointment of the resident Pensioners propping up the bar in the tavern, the second-half of the year has lacked the success that was so prevalent during the first-half of 2017.
Chelsea now find themselves well adrift of league-leaders Manchester City who appear to have opened up an unassailable gap at the top of the table, leaving Chelsea’s hopes of retaining their title in tatters with just under half the season left to play.
At this stage, it is important that Chelsea focus on how to emulate City’s success next season and begin identifying a number of quality players who can enable them to reach the standard set by Guardiola’s side.
And reports emerging in recent days suggest Conte is hoping to convince Bayern Munich’s Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal to make a switch from Munich to West-London.
According to reports in Bild (via The Daily Express), Vidal – who should be available for £31 million – has become a primary target for Chelsea in the January window.
Although there are some Chelsea supporters who are sceptical about the merits of signing the Bayern Munich employee who turns 31 in May, the majority of fans are encouraged by the prospect of seeing Vidal in a Chelsea shirt in the near future.
Here’s what The Blues faithful had to say about their club’s links with Vidal…
Vidal is one of if not the best cdm on the planet
