An picture has surfaced of Dimitar Berbatov wearing an old Newcastle United jersey that he supposedly had when he was younger. The strip has 'Berbatov 9' on the back and a lot of fans have been wondering what might have been had they signed the Bulgarian hitman.

It's hard to get around the fact that the ex-Tottenham and Manchester United striker looks very good in back and white and the fans would have given anything to have had the classy goal-getter leading their line in his prime. At the age of 37, a lot of fans would still have the striker at the club now, even though he's without a club after leaving Indian club Kerala Blasters back in April this year.

Newcastle United is a club famous for its number 9s. The likes of Alan Shearer, Andy Cole and Les Ferdinand have all donned the famous jersey in the Premier League era and whilst Berbatov may not be held in as high esteem as that trio, he certainly would have done the shirt justice with his ability to conjure a goal out of nowhere and win his side three points in a game where they might not necessarily deserve it.

Some supporters would still love to see Berbatov sign for the club, but he would have been deadly for the Geordies back in his prime.
