A strange move? Newcastle United set for improved bid for Stoke City flop

There’s a big Premier League season ahead for Newcastle United and Rafa Benitez as they make their much-anticipated return to the top flight.

The Magpies were promoted from the Championship last season after a convincing second-tier campaign but everyone at St James’ Park knows that this season won’t be easy in the slightest.

The Newcastle fans lining the bar here in the pub know the team will have to really rally together over the next few weeks to ensure their preparation is complete and a few more incomings wouldn’t be a bad thing in the slightest either.

But there’s one man Newcastle are being linked with which might turn a few heads as to Rafa’s plans going forward this campaign.

The player in question? Stoke City striker Joselu, whom the Magpies are readying a second bid for according to the Shields Gazette.

The club have already rejected one bid from the Magpies for the Spaniard, who signed from Hannover two years ago for £5.75million.

He’s struggled for real form in the Premier League and was shipped out to Deportivo La Coruna last season. Stoke are looking to sell but won’t accept a derisory bid for their player.

Newcastle missed out on Tammy Abraham earlier this summer and Benitez wants to add one more striker to their ranks in the coming weeks.

Landlord’s Verdict

Newcastle need as much firepower as they can bring in ahead of their return to the Premier League and it’s clear that Rafa needs a few more players to complete his team.

But is a move for Joselu going to keep them in the Premier League? It’s a different sort of transfer to what we expected and it’s clear Rafa sees something in the forward. He’s going to have to really pick up his game if he’s to help the Magpies out though.
