Abramovich and Conte hold talks as Chelsea summer plans become clearer

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are still waiting for a few signings to be confirmed…

With Antonio Conte’s side still yet to improve, there is a real sense of anxiety amongst supporters. However, a recent report from the Times is likely to calm their nerves somewhat.

According to the Times, Conte has held talks with Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich regarding a potential new contract, whilst he has also discussed the prospect of major changes at Stamford Bridge this summer. It is noted that Conte will be allowed to pick a replacement for assistant manager Steve Holland, whilst Abramovich is also willing to back the Italian with £200 million.

Both of these allowances are very important, with the offer of increased funds particularly enticing. With Chelsea needing to bulk out their squad this summer given their return to the Champions League, a few big new names are necessary ahead of the new season.

Replacing Steve Holland is also important, given how crucial he has been over the last few years. He has been a constant despite regular managerial change, and so the gap that he has left behind is a very sizeable one.

Antonio Conte has been given the tools, now our landlord thinks that he needs to step up and build.
