Abramovich and Conte must prepare for Chelsea’s surely inevitable transfer problem

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern are enjoying life under Antonio Conte so far this season…

Chelsea have had a decent beginning to their title defence this season despite the fact they are well adrift of league-leaders Manchester City. The month of December has thrown up an appealing set of fixtures for The Blues, and they will be hoping that they can continue their excellent run of form of late to close the gap at the top of the Premier League. Alvaro Morata has been instrumental in Chelsea’s early season success alongside Eden Hazard in Conte’s front-two.

The relationship between Morata and Chelsea’s crown jewel Hazard is starting to blossom into a frightening partnership at the business end of the pitch, and their ability to stay fit this season will dictate the outcome of their future aspirations in the seasons to come.

However, the Chelsea fans have been given cause for concern regarding the long-term future of their Belgium hero, as The Times believe Hazard is refusing to sign a new contract at the club, in order to encourage interest from Real Madrid.

Although nobody associated with the club will want to hear it, the departure of Hazard by the end of next summer’s transfer window is verging on inevitable.

By July of 2018, Hazard will have been a Chelsea player for 6 seasons, which in this day and age makes him something of a club veteran.

Hazard does have an FA Cup and a Champions League trophy missing from his Chelsea CV, but it’s unlikely that this will influence his desire to undertake a new challenge in La Liga.

For any of the world’s top players, a potential switch to Real Madrid is one of, if not the most appealing prospect in club football.

The brilliant Belgium has demonstrated unquestionable commitment to Chelsea throughout his career at Stamford Bridge, and set the English top-flight alight against the highest calibre of opposition, but unfortunately for Chelsea, an offer from Los Blancos will be too enticing for Hazard to refuse.

It is only a matter of time before Real Madrid or another of Europe’s historical heavyweights comes calling for his signature, so Chelsea should begin scouting for a worthy replacement sooner rather than later.
