Real Madrid are targeting Chelsea’s £12m rated versatile defender Branislav Ivanovic.
Ivanovic – who has been charged with violent conduct for his punch on Wigan’s Shaun Maloney – is a target for the Spanish giants even if Jose Mourinho leaves the Bernabeu this summer.
The Serbian right back is versatile enough to play a centre back also has been in terrific form for Chelsea this season and has not only contributed tremendous defensive solidity but also his fair share of goals, most notably the winner against Napoli in the Champions League.
Surely Chelsea will do everything in their power the keep the Serbian at Stamford Bridge as he is one of, if not the most consistent right back in the Premier League and has been for some years now.
Although £12m is high-end for a full back Chelsea would struggle to find a replacement as versatile, consistent and such an attacking threat as Ivanovic.
The 28-year-old provides Chelsea with alot of width and with his powerful runs and occasional silky skills opens doors for Chelsea’s attack. He is a constant threat from set pieces as he has shown this season 5 goals in both the league and in Europe. Not an amazing tally but consider that all those goals have been crucial goals, such as his two in the recent win at Villa Park and the opener in the home match against Wigan.
I for one hope Ivanovic remains a blue next season as he is an incredibly under-rated talent both at Chelsea and in the Premier League. All could depend on Chelsea’s ability to qualify for the Champions League, many players seem loyal to the club until the thought of playing Europa League football dawns on them.
