Anderlecht wonderkid, Romelu Lukaku is one of the hottest properties in world football.
Having been linked with Europe’s top clubs for some time despite just turning 18. Chelsea are in prime position to land the powerful forward. Goal.com reports that London club firstly need to offload two of their strikers to make way for the young Belgian, with two out of Drogba, Anelka and Kalou heading for the exit door.
Despite splashing out £50m on Fernando Torres in January, the blues have faltered upfront. No longer able to be solely reliant on Drogba to come up with the goods. The 33 year old has been the subject of much speculation, being linked with a move to rivals Tottenham Hotspur. In Lukaku they have a ready made replacement to their once talismanic Ivorian, possessing a devastating combination of raw pace and power, the towering striker would be ready made for premiership combat.
Belgium’s most decorated club are resigned to losing their proudest creation. Having netted 20 goals in all competitions this season, a summer move to one of Europe’s elite was always on the cards. Any move will not come cheap though, clubs will have to pay €30million asking price to land the explosive striker. Lukaku himself is understood to be a boyhood Chelsea fan, modelling his style of play on his boyhood hero, the man he is likely to replace, Drogba. Goal.com reported in January that Lukaku could see himself playing for a premiership club, saying a switch to England in the summer is “more likely” than a move to Spain or Germany, his other possible destinations.
