The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern were pleased by the acquisition of Ross Barkley earlier this month, but they are hoping for further reinforcements by the end of the January window.
Antonio Conte has complained to the media on plenty of occasions this season about the lack of options within his squad, despite the fact the club spent big-money on the signings of Bakayoko, Drinkwater, Morata, Zappacosta and Rudiger last summer. Due to Conte’s complaints, there has been a feeling lingering over Stamford Bridge that he is unhappy with the Chelsea hierarchy for failing to acquire the targets he had prioritised in the summer.
With that being said, the January window represents something of a make or break scenario for Conte and Abramovich’s relationship.
If Abramovich once again fails to land the names on Conte’s wish-list this month, then he could end up looking for a new manager come the end of the season.
A potential tranfer for Juventus left-back Alex Sandro could prove to be a decisive negotiation for Conte’s future at the club, as The Daily Telegraph believe Chelsea are unwilling to meet the £60 million valuation set by The Old Lady.
The price tag that has been slapped on the Brazilian looks extortionate on the surface, but it is a fairly reasonable demand considering the current state of the transfer market and the fact he has plenty of his best footballing years ahead of him.
Chelsea are currently lacking a quality defender to support Marcos Alonso in his duties at left-wing-back, so the signing of Alex Sandro should be the priority for The Blues this month.
If the Chelsea hierarchy want to avoid losing an excellent manager in Conte, then they will need to get their cheque book out this month and bring Alex Sandro to Stamford Bridge.
