The United fans in the Transfer Tavern haven’t got long to wait until they find out who their club’s player of the year for the 2017/18 season is, although most can guess who it’ll be. The votes have been counted for both the Sir Matt Busby Player of the year award and the Player’s Player of the year award, fans can read more about their awards night on the Manchester United website.
Could tonight's #MUFCPOTY winner go down in history? We wait to find out who will be triumphant in 2018…

The majority of fans seem to think that David De Gea will be picking up the award, which would put him above Cristiano Ronaldo as the player to have won the award the most amount of times. The pair has both won the award three times already. Meanwhile, Jesse Lingard could become the first homegrown player to win the award since Ryan Giggs and either Romelu Lukaku or Nemanja Matic could become the first player since Robin Van Persie in 2013 to win the award in their debut season.
Manchester United have suffered an up and down season. The club were knocked out of the League Cup in the quarter-finals by the Championship’s Bristol City but could win the FA Cup as they face Chelsea in the final on May 19th. Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho’s side has consistently occupied 2nd place in the Premier League and will be playing Champions League football next season. The Red Devils’ European campaign was a disaster though, as they bowed out at the first knockout stage to Sevilla.
Taking all of United’s achievements into account for the season, you can see who the fans are tipping to star at the Manchester United awards evening here:

If it’s not De Gea, we riot

It's so embarrassing to have a GK (even if he is the best in the world) keep winning this award.. Really hope he doesn't get it again lol, makes us look a laughing stock.

This is the most keenly contested and the closest it has been in recent years. Definitely not gonna be @D_DeGea at least, not that he doesn't deserve it though.
