The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern are over the moon with the news that Harry Winks has signed a contract extension with the club until 2023. The classy central-midfielder came through Tottenham’s academy system and made his breakthrough in the 2016/17 season, impressing Spurs fans and neutrals alike with his range of passing and ability to read a game.

Harry Winks’ most memorable performance to date came when Tottenham travelled to the Santiago Bernabeu in the Champions League group stages at the back end of last year. The Englishman was on top of his game and didn’t look out of his depth against the likes of Luka Modric and Toni Kroos, two of the best central-midfielders in modern day football. Recently though, Winks has struggled with an ankle injury and only managed 25 appearances for the club this season.
Tottenham could be losing their talented Belgian midfielder, Mousa Dembele this summer, and whilst the fans will all be calling for the club to open the chequebook to bring in a suitable replacement for their dominant Belgian, the smart option would be to give Winks more of a chance. The 22-year-old has looked up to the challenge in every game he’s played for Spurs and if it wasn’t for his ankle injury he would most likely have been included in Gareth Southgate’s World Cup squad for the summer.

Absolutely fantastic news, you could see how much we missed him towards the end of the season.
Also another great indication Pochettino is getting the issues he wants addressed and is being backed, as Winksy is a key player to this club in terms of our midfield moving forward.
