Manchester City could be set to raid AC Milan for the 20-year-old Italian international Stephan El Shaarawy. The youngster has made a fantastic start to the season at the San Siro with nine goals in 14 games, prompting the Rossoneri to start contract talks with El Shaarawy. With Milan reportedly interested in City striker Mario Balotelli, there is potential that a swap deal could be in the pipeline come January.
However it is likely to be El Shaarawy who is set to lose out more on a move to the Etihad than Balotelli is moving back to the San Siro.
With Tevez and Aguero looking like City’s principal strike force up until the end of the season the likelihood of El Shaarawy breaking through and cementing himself a place in the City starting line up is negliable. A sustained period on City’s bench is more likely to do harm than good and could disrupt the rich vain of form that the Milan striker finds himself in.
Whilst these rumours may prove to be unsubstantiated, and purely based upon the spending power that City have and the goalscoring ability that El Shaarawy has shown this season, Milan clearly feel the need to protect one of their most prized assets, from the big money vultures.
