There is no secret that Rafa Benitez would have liked to have added a couple more players to his Newcastle United squad in the summer.
Areas of the team are looking a little threadbare in places and has left the Spaniard with some concerns as their season began in the worst possible way.
One position that has been a problem for Benitez is at left-back, with Paul Dummett suffering an injury blow and leaving the Toon Army short.
However, that could give one man the chance to revive his career at St. James’ Park – if not at least, put in in the shop window.
He has finally been handed a shirt number, despite having initially been named in the Magpies 25-man squad for the Premier League.
Lazaar should look to use the chance to play for the reserves side as a way to show Benitez that he can fill the void at left-back in the senior side.
The Spaniard has admitted previously that the Morocco international’s future on Tyneside was bleak but the 26-year-old may be given the opportunity to prove himself.
Newcastle had tried to shift Lazaar on in the summer, however, they failed to do so and should he play well, it may have been a blessing in disguise for the Magpies.
