Achraf Lazaar named in Newcastle’s Premier League squad

Newcastle United appear to have given one man the chance to shine at St James’ Park this season, following the release of their squad list.

Clubs up and down the country have started to release their 25-man squad lists for the first half of the Premier League season.

And, according to a report by the Newcastle Chronicle, Achraf Lazaar has been handed a lifeline as he is one of those to have been included in Rafa Benitez’s squad.

The Morocco international was expected to leave the club this summer and was thought to have been close to sealing a move away before negotiations collapsed.

The 26-year-old has struggled to break into the first-team since he arrived in 2016, but it appears that he could have his work cut out for him if he were to make an appearance for the Magpies.

The Verdict:

Lazaar looks to have been given a fresh chance at restarting his career at Newcastle, although it will be extremely difficult for him to make an impression, especially following their exit from the League Cup.

The £900k-rated left-back, as per Transfermarkt, has been training with the reserves and will be hoping that he can do enough to convince Benitez to give him a chance.

It is likely Newcastle will look to move on the Morocco international once the January transfer window opens.
