Achraf Lazaar will remain training with the developmental side

Rafa Benitez has revealed that one Newcastle United player does not have a career at the club, despite having named him in his Premier League squad.

According to a report by the Shields Gazette, Achraf Lazaar will not be involved with the senior side this winter and will instead have to train with the developmental team.

The Morocco international had been named in the Premier League squad list, however, it is understood that Benitez had to pick between him and Rolando Aarons and decided he needed cover in the left-back position rather than in a more attacking role.

“They will stay over there (with the Under-23s),” he told the Shields Gazette.

“If they are over there, it’s because we told them we need to find a solution.”

Lazaar was thought to be closing in on a move away from St. James’ Park this summer, however, a possible switch to Genoa fell through at the last hour.

The Verdict:

The £900k-rated international, as per Transfermarkt, would have felt that he could have had an opportunity to break into the first-team.

However, it appears that Benitez has shot any chance of that happening after confirming he would need to remain with the developmental squad for training.

Lazaar could look to make an appearance for the Magpies if they were to suffer injuries, however, for now, it looks as though he will have to make do with reserve team football.
