Adebayor Is Yesterday’s News – Spurs Approach Inter For The ‘New Diego Milito’

Emmanuel AdebayorThe breaking news of the last few days has been Tottenham’s shock pursuit of Emmanuel Adebayor; the media were relishing the prospect of a vitriolic reaction from Spurs and Arsenal supporters alike, with the true nature of any deal (transfer or loan) becoming almost immaterial.

That was before Spurs realised just how much a move for Adebayor would cost them, as the striker’s current salary of around £160,000 a week is more than double that of any other player currently at White Hart Lane. That is until they have to convince Gareth Bale to stay with them when Real Madrid come calling this summer, of course.

Nevertheless, Adebayor’s wage demands look set to have priced Harry Redknapp out the running for the Togolese front man, and the Tottenham manager is rumoured to be exploring other options already. According to reports published by Itasportspress this morning, Redknapp’s preferred target is Bosnian striker, Vedad Ibisevic.

The 26 year-old currently plays in Germany, for Hoffenheim, and after scoring 38 goals in 73 appearances since joining the club in 2007, Ibisevic has caught the eye of more than one of Europe’s elite. Indeed, the Italian media are only aware of Spurs’ interest as one of their own top clubs, Inter Milan, have been tracking Ibisevic for some time now.

Rafa Benitez is reportedly after a new striker to replace Diego Milito, who for some reason has fallen out of favour under the Spaniard. Well, he only scored the winning goals in the Champions League final, after all, and Inter certainly won’t be needing that kind of service this season!

Karim Benzema and Luis Fabiano have been liked with moves to the San Siro, but Benitez seems determined to replace Diego Milito with, well, the “new Diego Milito”.

Yet all is not lost for Spurs as, for the first time, they can now genuinely compete with the likes of Inter in the transfer market, having secured qualification for the last 16 of the Champions League ahead of their Italian counterparts.

Therefore, why shouldn’t Harry be confident of getting his man?
