It’s no secret that Gianfranco Zola has been looking to sign a new striker for West Ham as the injury-hit club look like descending into the relegation scrap. The latest name to be mentioned is sure to bring excitement to Hammers fans though as Brazilian international striker Adriano has been linked with the club.
Adriano was a big scorer in Italy for both Parma and Inter Milan but eventually left Inter following a lot of criticism over discipline problems, his weight and a drinking problem. The striker reinvented himself back in his homeland at Flamengo where he hit 19 goals as the club won the Brazilian title for the first time in 35 years.
Adriano’s contract with the new Brazilian champions has now expired though and, whilst Flamengo are bound to be eager to seal the 27 year old to a new deal, a move back to Europe could be on the cards for the rejuvenated striker. The Sun quote the striker as saying
“I know that teams want me in Italy and England. I will take my time over a decision so I don’t make any mistakes. It’s not just about the money, there are other things.”
Adriano becomes the latest in a list of strikers linked with the East London club and his is one of the most exciting names to appear to the Hammers fans along with Luca Toni and Mario Balotelli. If Zola can convince Adriano that the move to West Ham is the right one for him then it would represent a major coup for the men from Upton Park.
