Liverpool have had a tough season so far, and the fans in the Transfer Tavern continue to blame those manning the defensive third…
Whilst nobody has been faultless this term, it’s clear that Liverpool’s real problems exist at the back of their team. Whilst Philippe Coutinho and Roberto Firmino continue to impress in the attack, the likes of Alberto Moreno, Joel Matip and Dejan Lovren continue to flounder in red.
It’s the latter of that trio that has earned a lot of criticism this term, and with good reason. Lovren has frequently made mistakes and cost Liverpool points, and this is a problem that Jurgen Klopp needs to work on.
Unfortunately for him, a lack of options has left him little choice at the back. But with poor performance after poor performance, our landlord thinks that it is time for Dejan Lovren to sit it out for a few weeks.
He proved his quality whilst with Southampton, and at points he has looked good at Liverpool, but he needs to add consistency to his game, and that isn’t happening at present. A spell on the sidelines is surely deserved. Klopp doesn’t have many options, but even a youth plyer could provide better stability at present.
