Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been discussing some disappointing news today by the jukebox, after it was revealed a quality signing rejected a move to the club in the mid-season transfer window.
Metro quotes the agent of Inter Milan ace Yuto Nagatomo as confirming the Japanese defender rejected a move to Old Trafford in January, instead electing to pen a new contract with Roberto Mancini’s side.
Manchester United were desperate to sign a full-back in the January transfer window after injuries to Ashley Young, Marcos Rojo and Luke Shaw, even allegedly chartering a private jet from Milan to Manchester to speed up a deal.
However, the mid-season window ended with United failing to add a single player to their ranks and now Nagatomo’s agent, Federico Pastorello, confirmed an offer from the Red Devils was turned down.
‘The announcement [contract] will be made shortly. He could have ended up in the Bundesliga, for more money. We’re talking a multi-year deal. In January, he could have gone to Manchester United, during the last day of the transfer window.’
Some of the fans in the bar aren’t too concerned though, as they feel the need for Yagatomo was only short-term as their defensive ranks look strong once all their options are fully fit.
