Manchester United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been left scratching their heads, after their pub lunch was interrupted by sensational reports from the continent.
Metro, publishing an extract from Portuguese paper O Jogo, state super-agent Jorge Mendes has confirmed Manchester United tabled a ridiculous offer of £30.4m to Benfica for teenage sensation Renato Sanches, with the offer including an additional £15.2m in bonuses.
United are keen to bring 18-year-old Sanches to the club, with the player making waves and tipped for an excellent future, but they’re having some trouble finalising a fee with the Portuguese club.
Benfica value the teenager at £45.6m and want that fee up front, which led them to reject United’s mammoth offer. Incidentally, Sanches has a whopping release-clause of £60.9m but the Red Devils are likely to negotiate a price significantly less than that figure.
Our landlord isn’t quite sure what United are thinking, stating this is a massive risk and there is no guarantee Renato Sanches will fulfil his potential.
United fans, is this whole saga getting a bit ridiculous or should you go all-out for the player? Let us know in the comments below!
