With Manchester United and Chelsea both enduring another disappointing season, wholesale changes are expected this summer. However, the fans in the Transfer Tavern have been handed some disappointing news.
Manchester Evening News cite comments from the agent of Paris Saint-Germain’s Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who is available on a free transfer this summer, as indicating his client wants to play for a Champions League side next season.
Ibrahimovic, who scored and missed a penalty against Manchester City last night, is highly-tipped to add a Premier League club to his long lists of suitors this summer but with no Champions League football, it doesn’t look like the Swede will line-up for United or Chelsea.
His outspoken agent Mino Raiola handed the disappointing news to the Premier League duo, as he told French outlet RMC Sport:
“Zlatan’s sole priority at this moment is to end the season well. Zlatan knows what he wants to do. He wants to play in the final of the Champions League, and if possible to win it.”
“Zlatan is motivated and all clubs who offer him a contract know that. He doesn’t need to continue for financial reasons, he wants to prove himself at the highest level, just as he has the other years when people thought he was too old.”
“I’m not saying the financial aspect is not important at all, but his motivation is not money. If you are the best, you must be paid as the best.”
Manchester United do still have a chance of beating City in the race for a top-four finish, although they face competition from West Ham, but it seemingly rules Chelsea out of the running as they currently sit tenth in the Premier League.
