The Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern will be celebrating the news that their club is set to edge closer to the domination of world football with a stunning signing for the next season.
It has been reported by The Sun that the Citizens will be ending their six-year association with American sportswear giants Nike and join Puma in a £45million-a-year deal, a massive increase on the current £18m-a-year contract they have at the moment.
The German sports manufacturers were keen to get another top club in the Premier League to sign a sponsorship deal with them after it was revealed that their current agreement with Arsenal is set to end. Indeed, an agreement is thought to be close on the eye-watering deal.
The style of football that has been played by Pep Guardiola’s side has attracted a number of fans from across the world, not just here in the Tavern, and Puma is ready to capitalise on it, whilst also using some of their star players as commercial benefits.
Sergio Aguero is already sponsored by the huge brand and is certainly a popular figure amongst the Etihad faithful. City are cruising to a third Premier League title and look on course to break a number of records in the process in a very successful season. Punters have seen their team lift the League Cup, whilst they also saw their club book their place in the quarter-finals of the Champions League with ease against Basel.
Perhaps this could bring even more money into City and, therefore, potentially even more big name players. While things can change quickly in football, the Sky Blues’ rampant domination shows no signs of letting up.
