Manchester City supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after seeing their side book their place in the Carabao Cup final courtesy of a hard-fought 5-3 aggregate victory over Championship outfit Bristol City.
Pep Guardiola’s men needed a late Sergio Aguero winner in the first leg at the Etihad Stadium two weeks ago to take a slender lead to Ashton Gate, yet they got the job done against the second tier club in a hugely entertaining encounter on Tuesday night. Goals from Leroy Sane and Kevin De Bruyne gave them comfortable three-goal lead with just 40 minutes of the game remaining, only for Lee Johnson’s side to hit back through Marlon Pack and Aden Flint, although De Bruyne ended the Robins’ dreams with his second of the night in the final minute of injury time.
Consequently, there have been many buoyant City fans in the Tavern this week, and they are likely to be further encouraged by a recent report from RMC (via Get French Football News), which suggests that an agreement has been ‘reached’ to sign Paris Saint-Germain youngster Claudio Gomes in the summer.
The 17-year-old hasn’t featured for the first team at the Parc des Princes but has been training with them in recent times, underlining the huge potential he has to go far in the game.
Yet the midfielder has been stalling on penning a professional deal with the French giants, and reports suggest that the France Under-18 captain, who has appeared five times for PSG in the UEFA Youth League this season, could be on his way to City, what with an agreement reportedly ‘reached’ regarding a move.
And with the future already looking bright at the Etihad Stadium under Guardiola, Gomes’ arrival in the summer is likely to delight our resident Citizens fans even more.
Landlord’s verdict: Premier League leaders Manchester City are hoping for a ‘dynasty’ under current manager Pep Guardiola, what with the Citizens currently playing some of the best football seen in the English game, and very much on course for huge success this term.
And the seemingly imminent signing of 17-year-old Claudio Gomes from Paris Saint-Germain is another nod to that long-term planning, as the North West outfit have reportedly ‘reached an agreement’ over a deal for the midfielder.
And with Gomes extremely highly-rated and currently captaining France’s Under-18 side, the youngster could well go on to have a hugely fruitful career at the Etihad Stadium.
