Manchester City fans in the Transfer Tavern are excited about the future under Pep Guardiola and are eager to see who they will sign now the summer transfer window is open.
The Citizens are close to sealing their first two deals of the summer – Riyad Mahrez is set to join from Leicester for £60m and Jorginho from Napoli for £46m according to the BBC. Guardiola hinted at two major signings which could mean their transfer business is over. Mahrez’s arrival will see competition increase in attack which could lead to the departure of Sergio Aguero, who looks to be past his very best, despite his obvious talent.
The Argentine forward has been linked with a move away after falling down the pecking order with Gabriel Jesus staking his claim for a place in the starting eleven. His former club, Atletico Madrid, have been linked with his signature with Antoine Griezmann set to depart the club. Fernando Torres and Kevin Gameiro are also on the way out meaning a striker will be Diego Simeone’s number one priority.
Griezmann is expected to move to Barcelona, but Atleti will surely be reluctant to sell to a domestic rival. Instead, City should propose a swap deal which would see the Frenchman arrive in Manchester and Aguero return to his former employers. Adding a younger forward to partner Jesus would be ideal for Guardiola and including Aguero will lessen the price tag on Griezmann’s head.
Valued at £90m by Transfermarkt, the 27-year-old has developed into one of the world’s best forwards. He netted 29 goals in all competitions last season with Madrid lifting the Europa League last season. If City want to win the Champions League, Griezmann is the man to help them do it.
