Metro have Chelsea fans looking up from their pints here in the Football Transfer Tavern as they claim that the club have rejected an approach from Ajax to take Marco van Ginkel on loan this season.
Since making his £8 million switch from Vitesse Arnhem, Van Ginkel has featured a few times from the bench.
As one of our punters quips, given Juan Mata can’t even get a game under Mourinho, why should new boy van Ginkel be any different?
The midfield now boasts the likes of Ramires and Frank Lampard, along with new additions such as Willian and Andre Schurrle, not to mention the ever present Eden Hazard.
Ajax had eyed a deal to take the player on loan, and director of football Marc Overmars claimed that: “We would like to see van Ginkel playing at Ajax.
“For that type of player we are willing to pay top price. I’ve tried, but Chelsea will not let him go.”
We think that a loan spell for the young player could well be a good idea, yet given the fact that Chelsea have a long season ahead of them, it is understandable that Mourinho is keeping some players in reserve.
van Ginkel should get his chance to impress in the cup games, and the player himself is keen to impress and fight for his place at Stamford Bridge.
Should Chelsea have allowed van Ginkel to return to the Eredivisie to further his development? Let us know your thoughts below.
