The Tottenham fans in the Transfer Tavern have spent the last few hours toasting to Harry Kane’s recent achievements. The Englishman has had a sensational 2017, and he capped it off with yet another hat-trick against Southampton yesterday. However, Alan Shearer has provided a reason for concern amongst our resident Lilywhites.
Writing in his column with the Sun, Shearer has revealed that Tottenham fans should be slightly concerned about his long-term future at Spurs.
He said: “Things have stalled a bit on the pitch after title tilts in the last two seasons, although they have been impressive in the Champions League”.
Shearer continued: “If they don’t win anything in the next two years, Kane could have a big decision to make and there will be no lack of suitors with big money wanting him”.
Certainly, there isn’t any real fear of Kane leaving anytime soon, and indeed, the Englishman is clearly very happy at Tottenham, but if things don’t improve for the club, he may genuinely have to consider moving on.
He’s undoubtedly one of Europe’s best players at present, and his goals this year have placed him on a pedestal alongside the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi. Unfortunately for Mauricio Pochettino, though, Spurs are not Barcelona and they are not Real Madrid.
If he wants to reach his full potential, he needs to be competing for some of Europe’s biggest trophies. Tottenham are in a good spot to be able to do that over the coming years, but if they don’t, his future surely must be considered.
Kane and Tottenham are a great fit for each other at present. They are both quickly growing into well-recognised European names, but Kane is beginning to grow at a faster rate than his club.
In the future, then, if Tottenham don’t begin to win trophies and get awards at the rate of Kane, it could be decision time.
