Alderweireld out: Tottenham should try and replace Belgian with £31.5m-rated defender

Tottenham fans in the Tavern are down in the dumps following another trophy-less season and speculation has begun that key players could be shown the exit door in the summer.

Toby Alderweireld could be set to depart the club having yet to pen a new contract at Wembley which has may have led to Mauricio Pochettino dropping the Belgian international.

Should the former Atletico defender leave the club, Spurs should aim to replace him with Roma defender – Kostas Manolas.

The Greek defender recently grabbed the headlines after his late header completed a miraculous comeback for Roma to secure their place in the semi-final of the Champions League at the expense of Barcelona.

Valued at a whopping £31.5m by Transfermarkt, Manolas has a robust frame stands at 6ft2 tall, and so would have no issue in adapting to the physicality of the Premier League if he makes a move to North London.

He has emerged as one of Europe’s brightest defensive talents, offering brilliant tackling, positioning and aerial dominance for an Italian side that have had a fantastic season both domestically and in Europe, beating the likes of Chelsea along the way.

The Greek defender is proven at every level, and so Tottenham would be wise to bring him in. You could argue that he’d actually be an upgrade on Alderweireld, who has struggled with form and fitness issues this season.

Tottenham fans, will you be disappointed if Toby Alderweireld leaves the club? Let us know!
