Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing Swiss defender Philippe Koch from FC Zurich. The 21 year-old Switzerland under-21 international has caught the eye of Villa boss Alex McCleish, who is desperate to strengthen his thin squad in January.
But Aston Villa face some competition for the youngster’s signature, as both Ajax and Lazio are interested in signing the defender. It is believed that Koch could be available for as little as £2 million.
Koch has been a regular in the FC Zurich team ever since making his debut in 2008. The defender has made 67 appearances for the Swiss club. Koch also has 18 caps for the Switzerland under-21 side.
The defender added fuel to the transfer rumours by recently admitting that he would like the chance to play in England. He said:
“It would be a dream to play in England. I’ve had good references from Senderos and Djourou and I’d like the chance.”
