Liverpool fans will be biting their nails over the course of the next few weeks as the Premier League season continues to edge closer to its conclusion.
Jurgen Klopp’s side are still within a chance of going one step further in the Champions League as well and it appears they may have been handed a significant boost ahead of the final stage of the campaign.
What’s the News?
According to a report by The Daily Mail, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is set to mark his return to action against Derby County on Friday in an Under-23 match.
There were fears that the midfielder would miss the whole of the season following the serious injury he sustained last April, however, he has been making a mockery of the rumoured return dates.
It is expected that he will play just one half against the Championship side’s developmental squad as Klopp looks to ease him back into action.
The news that Oxlade-Chamberlain could be close to a full return will come as a significant boost to Liverpool and their fans as the England international can play a key role in their pursuit of silverware this season.
The 25-year-old has the potential of changing games for the Premier League outfit and the time of his return to action could not have been any better for those on Merseyside.
It is the last game for the Under-23’s for around a month, so if the midfielder can get through that with no problems, he could be thrown back into first-team action as soon as possible.
Obviously, the fact that he has already returned to training will have been welcomed by everyone connected to the club, but the possibility of being able to play before the season finishes could be the exact type of lift Liverpool need to finish the season strongly.
Liverpool fans, how pleasing is it to hear that Oxlade-Chamberlain is closing in on a return to first-team action and will play his first competitive football match on Friday? Join in with the discussion below by sharing your thoughts with us.
