Uh oh. Spurs blasting in goal upon goal in a pre-season friendly. Darren Bent vs Celtic anyone? Of course, we’d rather watch 4 going in for us than against us.
710 million people are said to be tuning in to the World Cup Final today. So here’s a footballing h’orderve for you.
The following comes from that dubious doyen of bloggers that is Harry Hotspur. In particular one of his top chaps, Toddspur. Our thanks to both parties for letting us have a peek.
First things first – lets talk body language All the reserves looked keen as mustard. Jenas looked a shadow of his former self (cue the sarcasm), PSB did a lot of moaning but ref was pants so kinda felt for him. You could see he is still a class act….his footballing brain is still quality its just everything below the neck that struggles The only other player that didn’t look up for it was Bentley. His injury didn’t look too bad. Typical first game of the season, Bostock looked keen but didn’t really produce much. Callum Butcher look a big lad, very good at centre half.
Cudicini 7 – only one shot to save Hutton – 7, although he too could be accused of being uninterested I thought he did ok, looked fit Calum Butcher – 7, solid and a big lad Steven Caulker – 6 quiet, no mistakes, Bale, 6, struggled with no service, got better towards the end of 1st half….no crosses which was odd; Bentley – 6, gout Parrett – 6, steady likes a tackle, Bostock – 6, tried hard Ryan Mason – 7, good game I thought, a lot of running; Keane – 7, first touches were superb, no understanding with Obika Obika – 6, didn’t impress, easy tap in for the goal following header back to keeper which was heading in anyways Townsend (on for Goutboy), 7 (first half rating), seemed to work better with Baler, got the defenders on the back foot, fit and fast
Wholesale changes apart from Townsend
Alnwick– 6, as Cuddlychino’s
Naughton – 6, not great, couple of poor passes, got better as the game went on
Kaboul – 7 assured and good in the air, great ball for Pavs goal (the lob),
Livermore 7, I like this guy, strong and versatile,
Rose – 7, lively and scored a good goal with his weaker foot
Smith – 6 reminded me of a young PSB
Jenas – 6 average and either wasn’t fully fit or fully interested
Modric – 8, class act, got some rough treatment, commanded the midfield
Townsend – 9 MOM by a mile, deserved to score, linked well with Pav and Rose, always offered the midfield an outlet, great run for Pav first goal and final ball
Taarabt – 6, The guys def got it, but just doesn’t know when to “do it”…..he cant play simple ball
Super Pav – 8.5, quality finishing, the lob was exquisite, great ball from Kaboul. should have scored another. The crowd adore this guy, he and JJ were the only two to clap the spurs fans….
Would keep Livermore and Townsend as well. The rest should go on loan and get a full season in.
Sad not to see Krankie and Charlie but good to see Cuddlychino’s
Overall team rating; 6.5
