Everton may have improved under Sam Allardyce since his arrival at the club prior to Christmas, but further changes are expected at the club in the coming weeks as the former England and West Ham United boss attempts to put his own mark on the squad.
Everton fans here in The Transfer Tavern are excited by what the month will bring for their side, with big changes expected over the course of the winter window. Allardyce has already begun to clear out his squad, with Ross Barkley and Kevin Mirallas having already departed for Chelsea and Lyon respectively, and the BBC reports that further departures could occur, with the futures of Oumar Niasse, Davy Klaassen and Sandro Ramirez under review.
However incoming are expected, with the same source reporting that Allardyce is keen to add both a left sided defender and a central defender to his squad in the coming weeks. A complete mid-season overhaul is expected, with the BBC’s Phil McNulty suggesting a much busier transfer window for the Toffees than anticipated.
Landlord’s Verdict: Everton were nothing short of shocking over the first half of the season at the back, and the tide of goals against them was only stemmed following the arrival of Allardyce. Bolstering his ageing backline has emerged as a key wish for the new boss, with the likes of Leighton Baines, Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams all well into their thirties.
Everton fans can expect several new faces at the back and perhaps even a couple of forwards in the coming weeks should Allardyce clear the players from the squad he no longer requires, and this window could be an exciting one indeed for fans from the Blue side of Stanley Park.
