Everton may have experienced a complete turnaround since the arrival of Sam Allardyce, but the former Bolton Wanderers and West Ham United boss will be the first to admit that there is a long way to go before the club are in a position that will please the experienced manager.
Toffees fans here in The Transfer Tavern share a similar sentiment, and know that big changes are to be expected over the course of the next couple of transfer windows, as Allardyce attempts to transform their beloved side into top-four contenders. Cenk Tosun has already arrived this month in a £27 million deal, a fee that could prove to be a bargain given the player’s electric form in Turkey, and in the Champions League. Our landlord caught up with fans around the jukebox to talk all things Everton, and talk quickly turned to the current transfer window. Fans are keen to see Allardyce target another central defender this month, with the ageing pair of Phil Jagielka and Ashley Williams nearing the end of their careers, and are desperate to see owner Farhad Moshiri stump up the cash for England man, Harry Maguire.
With Michael Keane already set to fill one of the central roles for the foreseeable future, fans are keen to see Allardyce pair the 25-year-old with his 24-year-old England teammates, in a move that could also work wonders for the national side. If Allardyce is backed in a move for the Leicester City man, Everton could be handed their starting partnership for the next eight years, and any money utilised on the capture of Maguire would prove to be money well spent.
If Allardyce can pull this deal off, he could boast one of the strongest, most exciting, central defensive partnerships in the Premier League.
