Mark Hughes saved Southampton when they were on the brink of relegation last year in their sixth season back in the Premier League.
The Welshman took over The Saints in March when they were precariously placed in 17th place in the table. However, despite staving off relegation, the manager didn’t actually bring his team up the table, as they finished in the exact same place.
He didn’t necessarily revolutionise the club, just helped them survive. This suggested that he may be more of a manager to turn to when a club is in a crisis, rather than one to take a club forward, in a similar role to other managers like Sam Allardyce.
With that in mind, we asked if you thought Hughes was the right man for the job, and these were the results:
The fans have spoken, and 74% of fans think that Hughes is not the right man to take The Saints forward. Hughes may have developed a reputation for himself, and it may not be as a progressive manager.
