Everton fans in the Transfer Tavern are glad that Sam Allardyce has departed his role as manager and our punters are excited to see who will replace him.
The ex-England boss took over from Ronald Koeman back in November and steered the Toffees away from the relegation zone. He actually guided the Blues to eighth in the Premier League, but his play style at Goodison Park led to the fans becoming disillusioned. After various fan protests, he was finally given his marching orders.
Former Watford boss, Marco Silva, is expected to be named as his successor and has a massive task on his hands to revamp the squad. The Blues spent £140m last summer, however, the majority of their signings failed to hit the ground running. A new holding midfielder will be high on his priority list with Davy Klaassen struggling since moving from Ajax.
One man they should target is Sporting Lisbon star – William Carvalho. The 26-year-old has been attracting attention from Europe for years with West Ham coming close to signing him last summer. Now, Everton could surely offer a more attractive proposition especially if Silva is appointed; Carvalho was a mainstay during Silva’s reign at the club back in 2015.
He is valued at £22.5m by Transfermarkt and Sporting could well listen to offers after a season of turmoil. He is known for his physical presence and tackling ability but also possesses a great range of passing. Carvalho would provide some much-needed protection for the Everton back four. Alongside Idrissa Gana Gueye, the Toffees would have a perfect partnership to help them finish in the top four.
