Guillem Balague, Sky Sports resident Spanish football expert, tell us that Real Madrid have made their final offer for the midfielder which fell €8million short of Liverpool’s €47m asking price.
Having already shelled out £56m for Kaka and £80m for Cristiano Ronaldo, free-spending La Liga giants Real were reluctant to pay €47m for Spain international Alonso. Balague claims that a final bid of €35million was tabled after previous offers of €24m and €27m were made to the Premier League side.
However MARCA’s Santiago Siguero says that Alonso spoke with Rafael Benitez to hand in a transfer request, 24 hours after the Reds manager had publicly questioned the commitment and loyalty of both Alonso and team mate Javier Mascherano who have failed to dampen rumours of moves to the Bernabeu and the Nou Camp respectively.
So what sort of liquid sauce was at the source of this one? Have Los Blancos made another bid for Alonso? Has the midfielder handed Rafa a transfer request? Should this rumour Fly or Die?
