‘Amazing value’, ‘Fernandinho 2.0’ – Man City fans call for forward-thinking January acquisition on Twitter

The Manchester City fans have been watching the Alexis Sanchez saga unfold with a tinge of envy for their local-rivals, but they trust that their club made the right decision to pull out of a potential deal.

Following months of speculation linking Sanchez with a move to the blue half of Manchester spanning back almost 6 months from the summer window of 2017, the Chile international made a dramatic u-turn and finalised his switch to Manchester United yesterday evening. Understandably, the punters clad in blue and white propping up our bar were pondering what might have been following the official confirmation, but they believe that Sanchez was not a necessary acquisition at this moment in time.

City have more pressing issues to deal with given the limitations of their squad at the present moment. Their injury crisis at left-back is a major issue for Guardiola, and relying on Fernandinho to remain fit for the remainder of the season without a recognised deputy to fill his void is another legitimate cause for concern.

With that being said, it is no wonder that The Citizens faithful on Twitter are encouraged by recent reports from Gianluca Di Marzio – a Sky Sports journalist working in Italy – who claims that City are close to completing a deal for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Brazilian midfielder Fred.

Although Fernandinho is still in brilliant form for City and looks as fit as ever, there is no doubt that he will need extra support in midfield to avoid burning out in the future.

A move for Fred will provide Fernandinho with the support he needs to continue to thrive at the highest reaches of the game, and give Guardiola an extra option in midfield, so it is no wonder the fans are warming to the idea of seeing Fred in City blue very shortly.

Here’s what the fans had to say about Fred’s potential move to The Etihad this month…
