The hopes of West Ham United fans in the Transfer Tavern have been significantly dashed today, after the agent of a quality target ruled out a potential switch to the Premier League.
19-year-old Halilovic has spent the season on-loan with Spanish minnows Sporting Gijon after failing to impress immediately at Barcelona, which has left the future of the talented Croatian up in the air.
West Ham United reportedly hold interest in the midfielder, along with Barcelona’s fellow Spanish side Valencia, but it appears the player would prefer to stay on the fringes of the Catalan giants.
“If Barcelona choose to loan him again, we prefer Halilovic to stay in Spain. For him, La Liga is better than the Premier League,”
“Due to his situation, evolution and contribution [Barcelona Sporting Director Roberto Fernandez] thinks that the loan has been positive. It’s not a good time to discuss contracts with Barcelona right now, they are thinking of La Liga. We will finish the season and then we’ll talk with the club.”
With Barcelona’s midfield breaming with talent, it would not be surprising to see the player loaned out again next term but the chances of him joining West Ham in a new venture at the Olympic Stadium appear to be very slim.
