Sam Allardyce is considering a move for Marseille’s Hatem Ben Arfa who may be available on loan. The signature of Ben Arfa, who was once one of the most sought after players in Europe, would be a real coup for Blackburn Rovers.
Ben Arfa, 22, has struggled to establish himself at Marseille under Didier Deschamps and is looking to move in January as he seeks first-team football. He is out of the reckoning for France’s World Cup squad as things stand and the only way for him to rectify the situation is to start playing regularly. He was once one of the most promising youngsters in France and has failed to live up to his potential. Only 22, there is still plenty of time for him, and Sam Allardyce has a history of getting the best out of players where others have failed; the likes of Kevin Davies and El Hadji Diouf owe Big Sam a lot. Like Diouf, Ben Arfa is also a controversial figure; he has been involved in scuffles with teammates in the past and there have been cases of insubordination when he has refused to train when asked to. Allardyce will back himself to solve these problems if he manages to bring the temperamental winger to Ewood Park.
Blackburn are a side that lack creativity, they have struggled to replace Tugay and when David Dunn is not playing, they are a side short of ideas. Ben Arfa would provide a spark but he is certainly an ambitious target for Allardyce, Blackburn is no longer the glamour club it once was.
