It looks as though Sergio Agüero will be leaving Atletico Madrid this summer with speculation over his destination being rife.
The son-in-law of Argentina legend, Diego Maradona has been linked with Juventus, Liverpool and of course Manchester City.
There has also been mention of Chelsea or a controversial switch across the city to Real Madrid since speaking publically of his desire to move to a bigger club.
“I find it hard to leave Atletico. It hurts and saddens me. I’ve thought long and hard and I am convinced that I must be true to myself. I do not think I put a ceiling on the ability to keep learning, to keep growing” said Agüero.
“After five intense years, this stage is over for me personally and I have to give way to a new one.
“So I want to clearly express my appreciation to the club for the efforts they have made for giving me a salary that equates with the largest clubs in the world.”
Kun has been a real fan favourite at Atletico and was keen to stress that his decision is down to football and not money.
“I’m about to turn 23 and I have everything before me. Suffice it to say that this is not an economic issue but strictly a sporting one.”
The Argentinian has been a target for many of the big clubs across Europe for a while and this declaration of his desire to leave is set to start a bidding war. Manchester City have the upper hand in terms of financial appeal to Atletico who value the player at around £40mill. If Carlos Tevez does leave Eastlands after becoming sick of the sight of Manchester then his compatriot would be the ideal replacement.
Italian giants, Juventus have expressed an interest in Kun but it would not be in his best interest to move to Serie A. If the striker really wants to enhance his career and grow as a player then the Premier League would be the perfect platform for him to earn international stardom. With Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea all interested, the Argentine is not short of options in England.
This is a huge summer for Atletico Madrid who are set to lose Agüero and Forlan, the strike partnership that won them the first Europa League trophy, last season. They will look to the highest bidder for Agüero in order to reap the financial benefits of the deal and rejuvenate their squad for next season. This is set to be a long transfer saga this summer that will involve all the big spenders.
