How time flies. Just 8 months ago I sat as excited as a fat kid in a cake shop about the start of a new season and what it may have in stall for Spurs. Well, it’s been a roller-coaster ride, and despite some slips, we still sit in fourth (joint third really), and in the semi’s of the FA cup.
There is still everything to play for for the club. If the remaining 8 games go well we can be holding our first FA cup for 21 years, and have gained automatic entry to holy grail of modern football, the Champions League. If they go badly, then it will be another season trophy-less, and fifth place and the thrills and spills of the Europa leagues and glamorous trips to Romania and Finland.
Norwich – H
Norwich have had an impressive first season in the top flight, but after winning 2 – 0 in the away leg earlier in the season Spurs should be able to handle this one.
Repeat of the last result Win 2 – 0
Chelsea – FA Cup Semi
Aaahh. I have looked at this game every way and can’t in all honesty predict a winner. My Spurs heart wants to just blurt out easy win for Spurs, but an ever improving Chelsea will be dangerous, and with fourth drifting away Chelsea can really focus on the Cup.
So, what am I to do. Chicken out, that’s what. Don’t know!
QPR – A
QPR might be in the midst of a relegation battle when this match is played so they’ll have some fight. However they have found scoring goals hard this year, so Spurs will only need a sneaky one to come away with the win. The same day Arsenal may be losing points as they face Chelsea. A chance to grab third? Win 2 – 0
Blackburn – H
Spurs had to fight hard for a 2 – 1 victory last time these teams meet, but that was at Ewood Park. This time Spurs shouldn’t have it so tough. Blackburn have improved recently but not enough to match a Spurs side I expect to really be hitting their stride again by this point in the season. Win 1 – 0
Bolton – A
If any game has the potential to give us a nasty surprise I think it might be this one. Bolton proved capable opposition in the 1 ½ FA cups games recently, and I expect them to be battling hard to stay up at this time. Add to that Wheater and Tim Ream starting to form a solid looking defensive pair and this may be the toughest league game since Sunderland. A win is still likely, but just to mix things up I’m saying a…. Draw 1 – 1
Villa – A
Villa are not the team they used to be. By this time in the season I don’t think they’ll be fighting for anything, whilst Spurs should have overtaken Arsenal for third, but will only have a point or two gap. Another Win 2 -1
Fulham – H
And so it comes to this, and I;ll be honest it looks like a nice way to end doesn’t it Spurs fans. Last day matches always unpredictable, but that’s not going to stop be making bold and outlandish ones. A boring, but comfortable Win 1 – 0
And third place!
Of course predictions are a terrible idea, and only set me up for a fall and your ridicule, but it looks like a whole lot of winnable matches for Spurs. Then again the very reason they look easy, is what makes them hard. Facing so many teams near the bottom of the league means facing a lot of teams fighting for survival.
Still I remain confident. Third place for Spurs. Your thoughts? Is 5 wins out of 8 games overconfidence?
