Chelsea are poised to make a £10 million swoop for Shakhtar Donetsk’s Croatian right-back Darijo Srna, the London Evening Standard understands. The right back is contracted in Ukraine until 2011 but the current UEFA Cup champions have stated that they are will to let Srna leave if clubs meet their valuation of the right back, who has been with the club since 2003.
Ancelotti is believed to be looking at his options at right back since learning that first choice full back José Bosingwa will be out for at least three months with injury and although Branislav Ivanovic has covered well, Ancelotti is looking for full back with more attacking threat.
However, it is likely that Chelsea will have to fight off competition from several other high profile clubs, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich and Real Madrid all rumoured to be interested. Srna himself has stated that there is interest in him. He said:
“The truth is I have two definite offers from top clubs in Europe, but I cannot name them. That would not be right.”
Srna has scored 18 goals in 71 appearances for Croatia and is the first choice penalty taker for both club and country. He would also be eligible for the Champions League, having only participated in the Europa League this year.
