The Liverpool fans in the Transfer Tavern are beginning to feel nervous about their prospects of finishing in the top-four this season.
The January transfer window is over and Jurgen Klopp must make do with the players at his disposal for the remainder of the season. January was a rather strange month for The Reds both on and off the field. Away from the action, Liverpool broke the world-record transfer fee for a defender by signing Virgil Van Dijk for £75 million, but they failed to replace Philippe Coutinho following his high-profile departure.
Whilst on the field, they became the first team to beat Manchester City in the Premier League all season, and they followed up their famous result by losing to rock-bottom Swansea City in the league before being knocked out of the FA Cup by West Brom at the 4th round stage.
The month just about epitomised the unpredictability and the consistently inconsistent nature of Liverpool Football Club in recent years. Consequently, The Reds faithful propping up our bar in the tavern don’t know what to expect anymore, and they’re feeling apprehensive ahead of their huge top-four six-pointer against Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday.
A win for Tottenham would enable them to leapfrog Liverpool into the top-four, so Jurgen Klopp will be stressing the importance of emulating the level of performance they showed against Man City in January.
And the Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter ahead of their eagerly anticipated clash to discuss their weekend fixture and demand a huge performance and result to match on Sunday.
Here’s what the Liverpool fans have had to say about their weekend fixture on Twitter…
I expect us to annihilate spurs. Their record against top 6 is a record in itself. Even Markovich (kop) &Balotelli scored against them at the Anfield road end.
