Everton fans have been drowning their sorrows in the Transfer Tavern in the last few days after their side’s woeful run of form continued at Old Trafford on Sunday.
Ronald Koeman’s men suffered Premier League defeats at the hands of Chelsea and Tottenham before going down 3-0 to Atalanta in the Europa League last week, hardly ideal preparation for a trip to table-toppers Manchester United.
And our resident Toffees sat and watched with dread as their team went down 4-0 to Jose Mourinho’s men, thus extending their losing streak to four matches in all competitions, and their winless run to six.
And a recent report from Italian outlet Calciomercato is hardly going to improve the mood of those Evertonians stood at the bar, as they suggest that the Merseyside outfit are falling behind in the race to land Udinese midfielder Jakub Jankto.
The 21-year-old came up through the ranks at the Serie A side before earning his senior debut for the club back in 2016, coming on as a late substitute in their 3-2 Coppa Italia defeat to Spezia on August 13.
And the Czech Republic international has since gone from strength to strength with 34 further appearances for the Italian club, in which time he has bagged seven goals and laid on five assists to help them to a 13th place finish last season, and 15th in the early stages of this one.
And his fine form has reportedly attracted interest from around Europe, with Arsenal and Everton reportedly interested, yet recent reports suggest that it is AC Milan who are leading the chase for the midfielder, leaving the Premier League duo with much to do to lure Jankto to England.
Landlord’s verdict: It has been quite the rise from Jakub Jankto at Udinese, having only made his debut for the club 13 months ago to become a key feature in their team now.
And with seven goals and five assists for the Serie A outfit, two goals and an assist of which have come this term, the 21-year-old was always going to attract interest, and so it seems with AC Milan, Arsenal, and Everton reportedly keeping tabs on his progress.
And they would have liked what they’ve seen so far, although the Premier League duo have got work to do as Milan reportedly lead the race, and the lure of one of the biggest teams in Italy may be too much for the English duo to compete with.
