If Everton are going to convince David Moyes that he can achieve all of his managerial goals at Goodison Park regardless of whether an offer from Tottenham lands on his doorstep, Bill Kenwright is going to have to break the habit of a lifetime and spend.
Speaking, while working as a pundit, to the BBC during the half-time break of a game at the Euros Moyes conveyed the importance and impact of his most recent signings such as Jelavic, and it appears he’s understandably eager to find the big Croatian a partner.
Italian news Outlet Tuttomercatoweb are reporting that the Toffees manager is eager to unite Jelavic with his international striker partner, Mario Mandzukic, at club level and its easy to see why.
The pair have impressed thus far in the competition and Madzukic has a relatively impressive goal scoring record of 20 goals in 56 Bundesliga appearances for his current club Wolfsburg. At 6ft 1″ and a muscular presence with decent speed, the one attribute Jelavic arguably lacks, Mandzukic would be likely to prove a useful addition to the Everton team.
The question is how realistic is the possibility of Everton acquiring the Croatian international’s services?
Reputable German Newspaper Kicker suggest that Wolfsburg would be willing to let Mandzukic leave “for a fair price.” But whether Everton’s usual financial prudence will stretch to a level the German club consider fair is the issue.
If Tottenham do come knocking and Everton wish to hold on to their manager they may have no choice but to start stumping up the cash, as Spurs are unlikely to be shy when it comes to spending this summer.
