Arsenal fans in the Football Transfer Tavern are overjoyed with the news that Javi Martinez has caught the attentions of Arsene Wenger.
It is believed that the Bayern Munich midfielder is growing disillusioned with life in Germany and talkSPORT claim that he is looking for a route out of the Allianz Arena.
He became the most expensive signing in Bundesliga history when he signed for £31.6 million from Athletic Bilbao in the summer of 2012.
The 25-year-old played a key role in Bayern’s European and domestic treble under former boss Jupp Heynckes but now German newspaper Bild claim that he is not a fan of the way he is managed under Pep Guardiola.
Martinez has made fewer Bundesliga starts this season than last term and has also been used as a centre back on several occasions.
Manchester City are also keeping tabs on the Spaniard and could make an offer if Martinez does choose to end his time at the Allianz.
But he still has three years left to run on his contract and is valued at a whopping £33 million.
Arsenal have been of course closely trailing the progress of another Bundesliga star in the form of Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender.
Would Martinez be a decent acquisition for you Arsenal fans, or is he well out of your budget? Let us know your thoughts below.
