There is some good news for Chelsea fans here in the Football Transfer Tavern as the London Evening Standard claim that Gary Cahill is set to commit his long-term future to the club.
The 28-year-old is an ever present at the heart of the defence and as one of our punters notes, given John Terry is not getting any younger, making sure that Cahill will be at the club to take over as the main man at the back is certainly a good move by Jose Mourinho.
It seems that not only are Chelsea looking to bring in the best players in the world; they are also trying to keep their current crop of stars with Thibaut Courtois being the latest player to sign a five-year deal, signalling his intent to stay at the club.
As one of our punters notes over a pint, Cahill has come on leaps and bounds since his £7 million move from Bolton Wanderers and has established himself not only in the Chelsea side but also the England starting eleven.
We even think he could be Chelsea’s next skipper when John Terry finally hangs up his boots.
Chelsea fans. Is this good news? Just how well do you think Cahill has done since the start of the season? Let us know your thoughts below.
