Chelsea fans are looking rather relieved here in the Football Transfer Tavern after the latest claim from the Daily Mail.
The publication seem to be under the impression that Frank Lampard will be offered a new deal by Chelsea.
This of course follows on from the deal that John Terry was offered just this week and we think it could well be a trio of Blues who are offered extended stays at Stamford Bridge if Jose Mourinho is to be believed.
Lampard will be offered a one-year deal –standard practice for Chelsea players over the age of 30 – and we think there could well be an option to join Mourinho’s backroom staff after that deal expires.
The England midfielder has been used sparingly this season but has been rewarded for some good performances with a spot in Roy Hodgson’s World Cup squad.
We think Blues fans will be keeping a keen eye on how their favourite goalscoring midfielder of all-time does in Brazil.
Now the only deal left to renew from the out of contract trio belongs to Ashley Cole and we think Chelsea may well throw a shock or two into the ring yet.
Is it simply a no-brainer to award Lampard a new Chelsea contract, now that Terry has penned his? Let us know your thoughts below.
