Emmanuel Adebayor is not the only frustrated forward on City’s books. Roque Santa Cruz was one of the club’s first big-money signings, yet the Paraguayan never really settled, due in no small part to a succession of injuries, and now looks set to leave Eastlands in January.
A sensational swoop from Leicester City had been suggested, after Sven Goran Eriksson admitted his admiration for Santa Cruz, and a move to Liverpool was also suggested. However, it now seems that Blackburn will win the race to sign the striker, with a bid of around £4m being enough to secure a move. Not bad for a player they sold for £17m in 2009.
Santa Cruz is rumoured to be keen on a move back to the club which brought him to the Premiership, and with Blackburn’s new owners providing the club with real financial clout, Santa Cruz’s transfer may be the first of many.
The striker could be the catalyst for a huge spending spree and complete squad rebuilding for the second time, and a second club, in two seasons!Like what the TT have on offer? Sign up for more notifications!
