The sale of Luis Suarez was expected for some time, but it is not any less disappointing for Liverpool fans in the Football Transfer Tavern following the confirmation today.
And sources at the Daily Mail reckon the Reds could be on the verge of selling another centre forward, with Sunderland preparing an £8 million bid for Fabio Borini.
The Italian spent last season on loan at the Stadium of Light and became a fans favourite after netting crucial goals in the Black Cats’ great escape from relegation.
And Gus Poyet wants the 23-year-old to spearhead his attack for the new season.
Borini’s agent has previously come out and said he expects his client to remain at Liverpool next season, however the Reds may be looking to strengthen in the striking department following the sale of Suarez.
The Reds have already signed Southampton’s Rickie Lambert this summer and have been chasing Lille’s Belgian forward Divock Origi – so it remains unclear as to whether Borini fits into Brendan Rodgers’ first team plans.
The player’s agent Marco De Marchi said earlier this month: “I would not be surprised if there were other clubs who want him, because I consider him a complete striker.
“But for the moment, all I can say with certainty is that Fabio has returned to Liverpool to stay.”
