The Sunderland Echo are reporting that Harry Redknapp has distanced himself from the job at The Stadium of Light.
Redknapp, who admits he interested to get back into management, stated that he does not see the job at the Premier League club as one that is possible to achieve the goal of safety. This is a bitter blow for fans of the club who have also seen Sean Dyche and David Moyes turn the job down.
Speaking to the Sunderland Echo about the job, Redknapp said:
“I’m not in the running and I don’t know if Sam Allardyce will want it either.Sam will be looking at it and thinking ‘can I keep these up?’Every year they seem to be in the same position.”
“I saw them at Bournemouth the other day and they were an absolute disaster. Bournemouth wiped the floor with them. They were horrendous. They haven’t recruited well.”
“Whoever takes it has a tough job on his hands. They’re poor at the back, the centre-halves aren’t good enough, they’re short everywhere. There’s a lot of work to be done there.”
This is bitter blow to the Sunderland board who have now been turned down by the third in a list of ideal replacements for Dick Advocaat, who resigned following Saturday’s draw with West Ham.
Sunderland fans in The Transfer Tavern are looking forlorn following the news, and just want the situation sorted sooner rather than later.
